This is the Airfix Maserati 250F slot car from the 1960's. The whole thing has been stripped down and cleaned. There's quite a bit of enhancement. The air intake on the bonnet has been opened out. The exhaust has been stripped of chrome, and repainted grey/black. The wheels have been black-washed to bring out the spoke detail, and knock-off spinners added to the rear hubs. The driver needed serious work in reshaping, as the original moulding made him look like a bloated Michelin man ! The screen was originally clear right down to the deck, so the bottom half was painted to match the body colour, and chrome rivets added, as well as a pair of wing mirrors. I've also black-washed the panel lines and louvres. I also made up small Maserati badges, visible just in front of the windscreen. The racing numbers are generic i.e. no particular real car.

A bit more detailing here. The brown leather headrest has been reshaped and emphasised. The brown leather strap holding on the rear body panel has been carefully painted in. In the cockpit, I've added a black dashboard with some dials, plus a partial steering wheel. Also, as the body is in top and bottom halves, I've scraped, sanded & polished the join, to minimise its visibility. The body has been left its original colour ( of the plastic ), but shined up with a coat of Klear acrylic floor polish, which also helps to hold down and blend in the number decals.

Here's the mechanicals. I replaced the braids with new tinned racing braid, and I also made them overlength, folding up the extra. So, as the braids wear, some of the extra can be pulled through and the rubbish cut off - saves complete braid changes and / or soldering....
